How to type fast
Typing Practice 2
If you’re from the video, welcome! The following are the exact instructions I gave our team to follow for 1 work week, which is why you’ll see instructions to record scores for each day. Enjoy!
Daily Practice Instructions (5 Work Days)
- Dedicate 20 minutes a day: 10 minutes before lunch, 10 minutes after lunch. Break it up however you'd like, but do at least 20 minutes total.
- Do not look at your keyboard, even during your regular workday.
- Focus on accuracy over speed at all times.
- Use the same keyboard throughout the week.
- At the end of each day: go to Monkeytype, take 5 × 15s tests, record your best score (optional).
Step 1: Keybr (Do This First)
- Go to Keybr, read the instructions, create an account, and unlock all letters (green).
- Don't move on to other activities until you've completed Keybr — even if it takes all 5 days.
Practice Activities After Keybr
🟢 Easy
- Monkeytype → "Words": Do a 50-word untimed test. Finish with zero errors. Then click “Practice Words” → Missed Words: "Words", Slow Words: "On".
- Monkeytype → "Zen": Type freely from your thoughts (e.g. goals, plans). Press
Shift+Enter
to end. - Monkeytype → "Custom": Put your full name, set to 30s, and practice.
- Continue using Keybr to reinforce accuracy.
🟡 Medium
- Monkeytype → "Quote": Adds punctuation and caps.
- Play TypeRacer: Race others, includes punctuation.
- Play ZType: Typing-based asteroid shooter, good for flow.
- Monkeytype → Longer test (1–2 mins): Helps with sustained accuracy.
🔴 Hard
- Monkeytype → Funbox → "Read Ahead Easy": Removes the next word while typing. Try "Read Ahead" or "Hard" if it's too easy.
- Use TypeLit.io: Choose a book, type a chapter, follow all formatting.
- Monkeytype → Funbox → "Wikipedia": Prompts are from Wikipedia — dense with punctuation and grammar rules.
Summary
- Try all activities unless too difficult.
- Start easy, move to medium/hard over the week.
- End each day with 5 × 15s Monkeytype tests. Track your progress!
